Material solutions for demanding functional applications

Functional systems in automotive impose some of the most complex material requirements in the vehicle. Components must be able to withstand continuous stresses from mechanical, dynamic, and temperature factors for many years and thousands of miles. At the same time, auto manufacturers face constant pressure to reduce weight, simplify processing, and improve system-level efficiency.

Mitsubishi Chemical Group aims to support OEMs and Tier suppliers with advanced polymers and composite materials engineered for these demanding conditions. By addressing challenges at the material level, we enable you to innovate with lightweight structural solutions, durable mechanical components, and strategies to [CB1] reduce noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH).

How our materials perform across functional automotive applications

Functional automotive components demand precise material behavior. Mitsubishi Chemical Group solutions are designed to remain durable in the face of mechanical loads, environmental stresses, and vibration while supporting efficient manufacturing.

Advanced composites for lightweight, load-bearing automotive components

Modern vehicle designs demand structural materials that combine high strength, stiffness, and dimensional stability with meaningful weight reduction. Replacing heavy, traditional metal components requires polymers and composites capable of maintaining mechanical integrity under continuous loads, impact events, and thermal cycling while remaining compatible with high-volume manufacturing processes.

Mitsubishi Chemical Group supports your innovations in vehicle design through reinforced thermoplastic composites and engineered materials that exhibit predictable mechanical performance and efficient processing. These solutions help OEMs and Tier suppliers reduce mass, consolidate parts, and achieve complex geometries without sacrificing durability, safety, or manufacturability.

Automotive material innovation spotlight

Award-winning injection-molded KyronMAXTM roof receivers for Jeep

Mitsubishi Chemical Group has developed a lightweight composite solution that redefines what is possible for high-volume structural automotive applications. Developed for Jeep, the KyronMAXTM roof receivers are the first injection-molded engineering thermoplastic reinforced with ultra short carbon fiber to be used in a weatherable autobody application.

Replacing the previous cast steel design, the KyronMAXTM material solution reduced component weight by approximately 80% while also delivering significant material cost savings. Beyond lightweighting, the technology demonstrates how advanced composites can meet demanding structural and durability requirements in real-world vehicle applications.

Developed in partnership with Stellantis, this innovation has received multiple industry recognitions, including:
